Dear Friends,
Greetings from Fumbo Parish, one of the remotest parishes of Monze Diocese in Zambia!
I am Fr Alain BOUBAG working in Fumbo Parish for the past 5 years. My parish is made up of farmers who rely only on crops and farming. They usually have small pieces of land and occasionally, when there are not enough rains during the rainy season, there is very poor or no harvest at all. They find it very difficult to send their children to school because of lack of money.
The situation is even more difficult for children who lost their parents. I am right now organizing help for 28 orphans among whom 4 are at college. These are: Eunice KAPINGA, Isabel BUKOWA, Gerald MOONGA and Gertrude MICHELO. All of them are committed Catholics and very much involved in the life of the Church.
Eunice KAPINGA lost her parents sometime back and she's struggling to get to the College. She needs assistance, as she's a very bright girl. Since 2001 Eunice is involved in the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace trying to help the vulnerable to fight for their rights.
Isabel BUKOWA, has got her two parents but they can't afford paying for her education. She's gifted in terms of teaching skills. She just needs to continue her training. She has been involved in the youth activities for a long, long time.
Gerald MOONGA, is a young man who really takes his studies seriously and preparing for his future. He needs to be helped because from his family nobody is able to raise the money he needs for this studies at the college. This young man is always present for his Small Christian Community meetings. That's quite encouraging.
Gertrude MICHELO, is the most vulnerable one. She managed to complete her secondary studies, but since 2003 she can't go to college because of lack of financial resources. She is involved in the reading ministry at the parish and has been waiting for help to start school. She's still at home because of lack of support.
School fees and related costs (transportation, school supplies, uniforms, etc.) in our area are approximately as follows per one term:
Primary Schools: K 80,000 ($ 20)
Secondary Schools: K 400,000 ($100)
Colleges: K 600,000 ($150)
(There are three terms in the school year)
Apart from these ones at college, there are still 24 more that I'm trying to help to get back to school.
If you decide to sponsor a scholarship to any of these children or youth, the respective school will send you a confirmation of the payment and we will send you a photograph of the child and keep you updated on its progress in school and arrange that the child (student) will send you a thank you letter (or e-mail) describing his/her current life.
We are relying on your help to help these children get a brighter future.
Adam has just advised me to write to you asking for this help. He is a lecturer at the Charles Lwanga College where three of our vulnerable parishioners (mentioned above) are about to start studies.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and generosity of heart. If you have any questions or need more information do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr Alain BOUBAG CSSp
